KPHP & SLIM Collaboration
For those of you who weren't at the meeting on Friday, here are updates on the status of the race:
SLIM will be collaborating with the Kenya Pediatric HIV Project (KPHP) [http://zone.medschool.pitt.edu/sites/kphp/default.aspx] on next year's race. We will be combining the financial resources available to KPHP through the Univ. Pittsburgh School of Medicine with SLIM's man power.
Last Friday, Alicia, Cori, and me (Sesi) met with Meg Quimper, Johnny Evankovich, and Seth Hepner, med school students involved with KPHP. We discussed plans for the race next Spring:
The SLIM 5k/10k
Cosponsored by SLIM & KPHP
LOGO
In the spirit of cooperation, we plan to combine our two logos to create one new one for the race. Seth will be looking into that.
ADVERTISING & SPONSORSHIP
This will primarily be SLIM's responsibility. Here's what needs to get done as far as advertising goes:
BUDGET
The budget hasn't been finalized, but this is roughly what we came up as far as who's covering which costs:
KPHP
Profits from the race registration fees will be split 50/50 between SLIM & KPHP. Profits from sponsors solicitated by SLIM members will be retained by SLIM.
REGISTRATION
Resgistration will be through SLIM's website. Since profits from the race registration fees will be split in half, we need a way to transfer KPHP's half of the profits from the SLIM account to their account. This shouldn't be too big of a deal. Can someone look into that?
Here are some suggested registration fees:
Early Registration (Up until 2-3 weeks before the race)
Students - $12
Non-students - $15
Late Registration (2-3 weeks before the race)
Students - $15
Non Students - $18
Race-Day Registration
Flat Price- $20
TIMING
KPHP suggested using professional timing through a company called The Runner's High. They can also provide runners' bibs, clocks, medals and trophies. Johnny will get in touch with them.
T-SHIRTS
We would like to have separate shirts for 5k runners, 1ok runners, and SLIM/KPHP volunteers organizing the race.
BUSES
We will most likely contract a transport company to take runners to the race. We should also look into asking if one of these companies can donate their services for free, in exchange for being named a top sponsor of the race. It's worth a shot. Can someone on the eBoard look into that?

This will primarily be SLIM's responsibility. Here's what needs to get done as far as advertising goes:
- Ask the city to cosponsor the race- ???
- Post the race on running websites- Sesi
- Get the status on general body members' search for sponsors- Sesi (I could use some help with this)
- Ask the Pittsburgh sports teams to donate raffle prizes (Steelers, Penguins...I guess the Pirates as well)-???
